Sunday Story Time!

Welcome back for Sunday Story Time. Today we are sharing a fun book about a spider called "The Very Busy Spider" by Eric Carle. This book has simple and repetitive text which children will enjoy listening to. After reading, you can use it to discuss farm animals or spiders.

Please note that the story telling of this book is done along with my little one, so don't expect it to be perfect. The book is being read with my daughter, so that you get an idea on how to involve young children in reading. Reading books should be interactive and exciting for little children and if they are involved in the story, it makes reading a joyful experience for them.

After reading the story, we did a cute spider head band craft. Cut thin strips out of black paper. Fold them to make the legs of the spider . Attach these to a thick strip of black sheet and put as many sticker or googly eyes as you want on your spider.

We also sang a spider song with our hand puppet. If you don't have a puppet, its ok. You can pretend to hold a spider as you sing.

The wordings of the song are:

Incy Wincy spider, climbed up on my head.

It crawled all around and made a nice soft bed.

It jumped on my shoulder, and right on to the floor.

And the Incy Wincy Spider went to look for more.

We played a fun game to practice our fine motor skills. We weaved yarn all around a plastic tub and added some plastic spiders and then used a tong to catch the spiders.

We wrapped up the session by dancing to this adorable song from David Polansky.
